Rainbow Babies

I met this family photographing Mom's dance recital. She owns a beautiful local business that teaches children's dance at local schools. Her dance recital was beautiful. Her family is beautiful. She wanted me to photograph something special for her.

On the day we were speaking about location for her session it was National Rainbow Day! I have a huge soft spot in my heart from my rainbow babies. I've photographed in hospitals by mothers bed side during miscarriages and bereavement moments. I've also had the pleasure of photographing rainbow babies. And there's just something so special about them. I tend to hold them tighter and rock them a little longer.

While we were discussing locations she had mentioned that she had teddy bears made for her of her children born sleeping. Companies like Project Bear and Bears of hope create memorial bears for children and families to remember their loved ones.

Her son was very invested. He was the surviving twin. She shared her story with me and I found myself grateful again for all of the moments I shared with these mothers. How I could be there for mothers in a way I never imagined.

Toward the end of every session children tend to loose their focus and attention, a lot of the times moms bribe with candy. (I DO THE SAME THING!) He went into moms purse and pulled out his candy, and it was a rainbow!

This little girl is the second angel baby. She just turned one.
